Lady Gaga Collaborator Jonas Akerlund Expects 'Great' Things From Her

'She can probably do anything she wants,' 'Paparazzi' and 'Telephone' director tells us at SXSW.

After the mostly positive reviews of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a>'s first music-video directorial effort on <a href="/news/articles/1675270/lady-gaga-marry-the-night-music-video.jhtml">"Marry the Night"</a>. It's fair to assume that we fans can expect more Gaga-directed clips in the near future. When MTV News caught up with her "Paparazzi" and "Telephone" <a href="/news/articles/1633818/the-man-behind-lady-gagas-telephone-video-jonas-akerlund.jhtml">director Jonas Åkerlund</a> recently during his SXSW appearance for his new ensemble dark comedy "Small Apartments," we asked him for his thoughts on Gaga's future as a director, should she choose to direct all of her videos from here on out. <center><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:748102/cp~id%3D1680857%26vid%3D748102%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A748102" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></center> "She can probably do anything she wants," he said. "So that's probably going to be great." And would Åkerlund make himself available for advice, should Gaga ever be in need of it? "Of course. I would never turn her down," he said, at which point his "Apartments" star and funnyman Matt Lucas ("Bridesmaids") asked a question of his own. "Is her real name Lady Gaga?" "Yes," Åkerlund answered with a smile. "Wow," Lucas responded with astonishment. "There's a fact for you MTV fans." Although Åkerlund didn't mention any more work with Gaga at this time, the busy director is still fully in the mix of the world of music videos. "I may do a couple music videos and I've done quite a few since 'Small Apartments,' actually. The last one I did was a Duran Duran video, but there's a few coming up too." "Are you going to do the Osmonds video?" Lucas asked cheekily. "That's what they're asking." "Maybe," Åkerlund responded, playing along with Lucas' joke. "I'm hoping to." For her part, Gaga has said that she's always been heavily involved in the creative processes behind all her work, including the direction of her music videos. "I know it's my directorial debut, but I've really created everything I've ever done in my career," she said. "I really didn't do anything differently on this video that I didn't do on the 'Telephone' video or the 'Paparazzi' video or the 'Bad Romance' video. I hope my fans will take from this the progression that you have to trust yourself to make mistakes."

I went to the premiere on Tuesday and it was the coolest thing ever. First, the movie is AMAZING and Chris Evans is a superstar. Second, there were so many damn people there it was insane. I have been to movie premieres in New York before and they were nothing like this. I mean, they closed down Hollywood Boulevard. I would've taken photos to show you, but the invite said to leave phones in the car. But here's a photo of me in my cool Captain America 3D glasses:

Anyway, Captain America is pulling a strong 71% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes right now so GO SEE IT! IT'S FANTASTIC!

Rihanna, Usher Added To Grammy Nominations Concert

Lady Gaga, Ludacris, Lupe Fiasco and the Band Perry also scheduled to perform at November 30 event.

<a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rihanna/artist.jhtml">Rihanna</a> and <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/usher/artist.jhtml">Usher</a> have been added to the performance lineup for "The <a href="/news/articles/1673138/lady-gaga-grammy-nominations-concert.jhtml">Grammy Nominations Concert Live!</a> Countdown to Music's Biggest Night," set to go down November 30. They join already announced acts Lady Gaga, Ludacris, Lupe Fiasco, Sugarland and Jason Aldean. Country crossover act the Band Perry will perform a full concert of their own after the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys">Grammy</a> nominations concert wraps up at L.A. Live's Nokia Theatre. LL Cool J will again host the show, which will air at 10 p.m. on CBS, <a href="http://www.billboard.com/news/rihanna-band-perry-usher-added-to-grammy-1005529002.story#/news/rihanna-band-perry-usher-added-to-grammy-1005529002.story" target="_blank">Billboard.com reports</a>. This marks the fourth year the Recording Academy had held one of these concerts. As some of music's biggest names take the stage during the special, the nominations for major Grammy categories will be announced. The awards ceremony will go down February 12 at the Staples Center, and will air live at 8 p.m. Over the course of her career, Rihanna has taken home four Grammy Awards including Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Umbrella," two trophies for "Run This Town" (including Best Rap Song and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration) and Best Dance Recording for "Only Girl (In the World)." Rihanna is currently riding high on the forthcoming release of her new album, <a href="/news/articles/1674237/rihanna-talk-that-talk-watch-learn-hit-boy.jhtml">Talk That Talk</a>, and two buzzworthy singles, "We Found Love" and "You Da One." In the thirteen years he's been nominated for Grammys, Usher has amassed seven, including wins for Best R&B Vocal Performance Male for "U Remind Me," Best R&B Vocal Performance Male for "U Don't Have To Call," Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for "Yeah," Best Contemporary R&B Album for Confessions, Best R&B Vocal Performance By a Duo/Group for "My Boo," Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for "There Goes My Baby" as well as Best Contemporary R&B Album for Raymond v.
