Why Faith Hill Isn't Jealous of Her Husband's Leading Ladies

Why Faith Hill Isn't Jealous of Her Husband's Leading Ladies

Even Faith Hill must get jealous when her husband of 14 years, Tim McGraw, stars onscreen opposite Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side) and Gwyneth Paltrow (Country Strong, out Dec. 22), right? "They're very nice ladies. Classy ladies. I got to know them both really well, and have a lot in common with them," the 43-year-old country star tells iVillage in an exclusive interview.

While Hill (who also sings the theme song to NBC's Sunday Night Football) may be cool, calm and collected when it comes to stunning Oscar winners, her three daughters aren't sure about how hip Mom is. In fact, when they go trick-or-treating this Halloween, she and McGraw will "kind of stay a nice, comfortable distance away," the singer laughs.

In our exclusive interview with Hill, she dishes about her most "horrible" Halloween costume ever and why she once couldn't stop touching Aretha Franklin's hair.

What are your daughters dressing up as for Halloween?

Audrey, our youngest daughter, who is 8, is going as a gothic nerd. Don't ask me how she came up with that costume! Our oldest daughter, Gracie, (13), I think she's going as a Crayola with a couple of friends. And then Maggie, our 12-year-old is going as a tie-dyed ninja.

Your daughters aren't too cool for Halloween yet?

No, I think that doesn't happen until they're much older. Right now it's kind of the time when they dress up with friends as groups. We walk with them as well. We just kind of stay a nice, comfortable distance away. They are at that age where they want to walk with their friends, but we still have them in eye's view.

So, Mom and Dad aren't cool enough anymore?

I guess not! We think we're cool enough to still watch them trick-or-treat. Whether we're cool enough or not, we are doing that!

What's your most embarrassing Halloween costume?

There's a costume that was passed down from my oldest brother, then to my middle brother and then on to me. It was this horrendous, yellow, big clown costume with red circles all over it and white cuffs and a big black hat. It was hideous. I think my mom made it! My brother (Wesley) wore it first, then my next brother, Steven, then I, of course, had to wear it for a couple of years. Horrible.

Have you ever dressed up as another celebrity?

I dressed up as Marilyn Monroe when I was 22 years old -- a long time ago.

How do you feel about Tim costarring with leading ladies like Sandra Bullock and Gwyneth Paltrow?

I think it's awesome. I'm proud of him. They're great girls.

I'd get jealous.

You would? Well, if they weren't nice ladies. But they're very nice ladies, classy ladies. I got to know them both really well, and have a lot in common with them.

What did you think of Gwyneth as a singer in Country Strong? Did you give her any tips?

No, I didn't. She did a lot of research, I have to say. She was very focused and I think she took a lot of great pride in wanting to do something really amazing. She has a lot of respect for country music. And she did a lot of research on her own, which I think really shows what a great actress she is. She's very focused and serious about her craft. She's so great in it.

Did you watch the "Country Strong" music video that recently hit the Internet?

I haven't. I have seen the movie and she's really great. I actually think it's one of her best performances.

Is it one of Tim's best performances?

Yes! (Laughs) He did a great job, too! I'm very proud of my husband.

Have you ever been starstruck by anyone?

I have -- Aretha Franklin. I was at the Grammys. It was years ago. Since then we've met and had a photo session together, talked on the phone, exchanged notes. But originally, the first time I met her, she was just walking down the hall and my tour manager at the time, Jimmy, stopped her when she was walking down the hallway at my dressing room door and then called for me to come to the door to meet someone and it was Aretha. And I just couldn't stop touching her! I kept touching her hair, and then her dress and her shoulder. I was just freaking out. You know, I just love her so much. It was really funny. He said, "Do you realize that you were touching her hair?"

Well, she still talks to you!

She does! So I guess I didn't traumatize her!
