Mike Nichols? Death: Reactions on Twitter from Celebrities and Public Figures

The death of Mike Nichols, legendary director of ‘The Graduate’ and other iconic movies — and husband of Diane Sawyer — at age 83 was sudden and has stunned the entertainment world. Many have taken to Twitter and here is a roundup of what is being said of the late icon. It was the president of ABC News who announced the sad news early on a Thursday as the morning shows were still being broadcast. While Good Morning America and the competing programs broadcast tributes, many were already taking to social media, Twitter in particular. Mike Nichols has had a towering influence upon film, television, theater and comedy for decades. He is one of few artists who have become an EGOT, which is to say, he won Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards. In fact, as recently as 2012 he won a Tony. He is known for directing such movies as ‘The Graduate,’ ‘Silkwood,’ ‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolfe’ and many other classics. Prior to that he was establishing fame on the stage as well as in comedy, notably with Elaine May. Many others may know him as the husband of former ABC News World News Tonight anchor Diane Sawyer.
