Pixar's first "Toy Story" TV special stars Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Don Rickles, and Wallace Shawn reprising their movie roles
How much trouble could a bunch of toys get into during an overnight stay at a roadside motel? When it's the Toy Story gang, and they get into a situation with a local yokel, it turns into a Toy Story of Terror!
On a road trip with Bonnie and her mother, the toy box dwellers are having a good time until Mr. Potato Head goes missing after they check into the Sleep Well motel. That sends Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Rex (Wallace Shawn), Mr. Pricklepants (Timothy Dalton), and Trixie (Kristin Schaal) on an adventure to find him.
But when the rest of the gang goes missing, one-by-one, the playthings begin to believe Pricklepants' predictions of scary movie-type occurrences could really be happening.
The special, Pixar's first 22-minute 'toon for TV, also teams Bonnie's toys with Combat Carl (Carl Weathers), the G.I. Joe-ish doll who's been teased in previous Toy Story projects. Here, Combat Carl's in full action-figure mode, and his predilection for referring to himself in the third person only adds to the quirky fun of his character.
The toys' entire TV trip is classic, clever Pixar fun. And without spoiling any of the fun, we advise you to make sure you don't miss the closing credits, where director Angus MacLane (who also worked on A Bug's Life, WALL-E, Monsters, Inc., The Incredibles, Cars, Finding Nemo, and Toy Story 2) makes sure all the toys' stories get wrapped up -- and that a certain evil-doer gets his comeuppance.
Toy Story of Terror airs on ABC Oct. 16 at 8 p.m. ET.
