Rupert Everett Slams Jennifer Aniston's Career

Rupert Everett Slams Jennifer Aniston's Career

In a recent BBC Radio 4 interview, actor Rupert Everett (My Best Friend's Wedding) had some harsh words of criticism about Hollywood and how it treats men and women. The 51-year-old also had some pretty unkind things to say about Jennifer Aniston regarding her career.

Everett dished on the early-morning news radio show Today about why he thinks the entertainment industry is a "heterosexual business." He says that after coming out he never found work in the U.K. or the U.S. and that while "it would have been too complicated for me to tell the lie" he supports that other actors choose stay in the closet (something he has encouraged in the past).

He also argued that Hollywood is run "mostly by heterosexual men" and referred to there being "a pecking order." He says, "I think the position of women is a pretty difficult one in show business. If you look at the idea of a drunk woman in show business on the skids at the age of 50, and a drunken man in show business on the skids, the drunken man gets an awful amount of support, and the woman is a slut."

While it sounds like Everett is defending gays and women in the industry, it seems as though there's one famous actress he's not terribly fond of: Jennifer Aniston.

After stating that "there are lots of women and lots of men in the business that the powers that be decide are the right people and they'll stand with them for quite a long time," he uses the 41-year-old actress as an example.

"Like Jennifer Aniston will just have one too many total flops," he says, adding, "But she's still a member of that club. And she will still manage to -- like a star forming in the universe -- a whole lot of things swirling around and suddenly solidifying into yet another vital tasteless rom-com: a little glitter next to the Crab Nebula."
